"We do not have to accept things as they appear. We can look deeply within ourselves, to find our own true answers." Venerable Thubten Tenzin |

Young people ask their questions to His Holiness the Dalai Lama |
What role do You see for young people generally, not just in terms of the future, but also in terms of what they can contribute today? |
HIS HOLINESS: I think everyday, while you are studying, while you are acquiring knowledge and different experiences, I always believe and share with other people that you should also constantly think about human values - a sense of caring, a sense of sharing, compassion. These things are very important, because education, a smart brain, is just like an instrument, so whether that instrument is used constructively or destructively depends on the user. If we use our knowledge in a more beneficial way, then this brings good to others as well as oneself. Now, for example, September 11th. Such a horrible act. Without a brilliant mind you can't do it. If not years, at least weeks and months, planned, calculated, measured, so therefore, these people who carry out such a horrible act, they really have a brilliant mind. So the brilliant human mind guided by human hatred, with the help of modern technology, then the disaster is immense. So therefore, I think it is important that while you're acquiring education, knowledge, taking care of your brain, you should also think and analyse about a warm heart. That's important. That makes more friends in your class! |
