Food Miles |
What are 'Food Miles'? Ever thought how far your food has had to travel to get to your dinner plate? 'Food miles' is the distance food travels from where it is grown to where it is bought. Food miles is an indication of how environmentally friendly particular food products are as freight and packaging consumes fuel and energy, and releases greenhouse gases, affecting global climate. Generally speaking, the lower the food miles, the better choice the product is for the environment! From Byron Shire Council |
Think about what you eat and try to increase local food intake and what's in season, like fresh produce from your local market! |

Flies are an important part of our environment! Flies perform important ecological functions such as nutrient recycling, predation, and pollination. Some species of Hover Flies are important pollinators and can often be seen hovering horizontally (like a miniature humming bird) above vegetation on warm sunny days. |
